My Pelican is finally built up… I’m stoked! The guys at FasTrack Bicycles were brought in to do the build, and they did an excellent job on the basic assembly. With that said, there’s still a fair bit to be done… install the fenders, setup the dynamo lighting system, mount the handlebar bag, cut the fork tube, decide on final bartape and saddle color, and a bunch of other details.
Initial test rides show it to be extremely comfortable – it fits me like a glove – with easy, predictable handling. I wasn’t sure what to expect with the low-trail fork, but both hands-on and hands-off handling has had no surprises so far. There’s no hands-off front end shimmy, and even with a front load the bike handles quite nice (in other words, the first beer run was a complete success!). And there’s a nice liveliness to the frame unlike anything I’ve had in the stable to date. There’s still a good deal of dialing in to do, but so far, I’m quite pleased… I caught myself staring at it for a good long time tonight, I think I’m in love 🙂
