Weasel Evo

I finally finished building my new Weasel Evo from Dream-Flight R/C. I’m really pleased with how it came out! Back in 2003, the original Weasel was the glider that really got me into slope soaring. I’d flown on and off since I was pretty young, and had finally got the hang of sloping my last year of high school, but then had been away from the hobby for a long time. All that changed in ’03 when I decided to quit smoking and find something more productive to do with my time and health. Boy what a revolution the humble little Weasel launched in my life!

Seven years later I’ve designed a couple slope gliders, the Le Fish and the Spindrift, that are being sold by my buddy Jack Cooper of Leading Edge Gliders, have had the privilege of being a prototype tester for a number of gliders including the fantastic Wasabi by FL Bird Works of Belgium, and maintain two websites devoted to slope soaring, SBSlopers.org and SlopeAerobatics.com. Until my comparatively recent infatuation with bicycles, r/c slope soaring has been my main thing for the better part of the past decade. And the humble Weasel was the catalyst!

Since nothing is too good for a Weasel (at least according to me), I went whole hog and installed Airtronics 94761 digital servos. One of these servos costs nearly as much as the entire Weasel kit (and you need two to fly the plane), but based on my experience with digital servos in other flying wings, the performance gains are totally worth it. The plane is also fitted out with an old Berg Microstamp receiver that I had lying around and a lost model alarm (I needed the noseweight anyways 🙂 ). I built the plane with the 3 piece wing option, so that it can pack right back down into the shipping box it came in for transport/travel. Haven’t weighed it yet but I think it’ll come to about 12.5-13oz… should be great!
