I’ve finished up converting my old 1992 Kona Lava Dome mountain bike into an Xtracycle utility bike. The Xtracycle is a bolt-in subframe that transforms a typical mountain bike into a nearly perfect car replacement. It’s rated for carrying 200 lbs., and has cavernous bags on each side in addition to the “Snapdeck” passenger seating plank on top.
The ride is smooth and very nice… I’m loving this thing and combined with our Wike trailer, it’s going to be really nice for our car-light lifestyle.
And having gears is awesome!!! Such a change from my fixie, to be sure.
