Another one of the “greats” has passed on; I heard on the radio this morning that John Lee Hooker passed away in his sleep. He was 83 years old.
I think it’s pretty amazing that he had such a long career, especially so considering how many talented jazz and blues musicians died in their early twenties or thirties (often as a result of violence, alchohol, drugs, or a combination thereof). While John Lee Hooker wasn’t my favorite blues musician, it’s a shame I never got the chance to see him live before he passed away. The world of blues will surely miss him, although his influence will remain.
